Welcome to February!

Erik Flesch & Sara Lomasz Flesch

Art, music, poetry, stargazing, trivia, history, culture, nature, food, theater, education.
These things and more are happening this month throughout our nook of the Driftless Area and fill this month’s issue of Voice of the River Valley.
Belying the notion that the dead of winter in Wisconsin is sleepy and quiet are popular annual winter events like the Spring Green Area Art Coalition’s Choose Art!/Art Out of the Closet fundraiser and Arts Mineral Point Ice Lantern Festival. Organizers of both have worked to expand their events, which serve as community fundraisers. New this year, one of artist Sue Johnson’s original pieces (pictured on this page) will be available in a raffle at Choose Art!/Art Out of the Closet.
In addition to five pages of calendar listings detailing the events in our region, this month’s magazine features the voices of Ainsley Anderson, Erik Flesch, Doris Green, John Heasley, Vincent Kavaloski, Kathy Steffen and Etienne White; art by Cynthia Quinn and several of the area artists who contributed Creative Canvases to SGAAC’s Choose Art! event; and photography by Annika Swenson. We’re also pleased to share a feature about Southwest Tech’s exhibit dedicated to telling the stories of Holocaust survivors, which is especially timely as we finished this issue on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Special thanks to the advertisers and subscribers who supported this month’s issue, to our volunteer distribution team, and to all our readers. Please consider sharing your voice in the coming months by contributing to our call for limericks, haiku and poetry (see ad, p. 6).
Happy reading,
