The A. D. German Warehouse Foundation seeks donors who would like to contribute toward a legacy paver as part of a rejuvenation project for the famous Frank Lloyd Wright building located in downtown Richland Center.
Your 8-inch x 8-inch legacy paver will be a part of the revitalized A. D. German Warehouse and will be forever ensconced in the new Legacy Terraces. You, your family, your business, or your charity’s name will be engraved within the paver. A legacy paver is an excellent way to remember a loved one, honor someone special, showcase your business or organization, or give a holiday present that will last forever. A legacy paver is tax deductible and costs $1,000 each that can be paid for by annual installments of $200 over five years.
Wright designed the A. D. German Warehouse in 1915, and the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Wisconsin (NRHP 1974). Constructed during Wright’s “organic” or “natural” period (1911-24), it is the only warehouse designed by Wright. In this bold brick structure topped by a concrete frieze that resembles a Mayan temple, visitors can catch glimpses of the artistry from which would later emerge the famous Imperial Hotel in Tokyo and Midway Gardens in Chicago.
Although the warehouse has sat abandoned for many years, this national treasure is seeing tremendous revitalization in the form of numerous conservation efforts. The A. D. German Warehouse hopes to offer the public a great opportunity for heritage tourism, an event space, a flexible “pop-up” restaurant, and a business incubator that attracts talented people to our community. Each legacy paver can help this vision manifest and ensure that we preserve this local architectural wonder for generations to come.
