Homeschoolers, UW-Platteville Team Up for Musical

Clockwise from top left, Isaac Arevelo, Elizabeth Romaine, Silas Klar and Lydia Romaine are among the cast of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” being staged by the Tri-State Homeschool Drama Troupe.

The Tri-State Homeschool Drama Troupe is proud to present “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” a new musical based on the 1968 film version, complete with a floating/flying car! Director Susan Cramer is back in full swing, working with 46 homeschool students who represent 12 different communities. This musical has harmonious songs and high-energy dance numbers.

The group is working in conjunction with the UW-Platteville scenic design class on some of the set pieces.

“The UW-Platteville theater department has been a wonderful resource for us since we began doing musicals five years ago,” said Cramer. “They have supported us by answering technical questions, sharing thoughts on choreography and loaning us props or equipment. Every other year, Jeffrey Strange teaches a scenic design class where students learn painting techniques through designing and painting some of our set pieces as a class project. This year they are putting together our Toy Maker’s Shop, and senior Sam Klaas has taken on building Chitty as a senior project. We have also utilized some UW-P music students in our orchestra. We are so thankful to have this connection with UW-Platteville.”

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” will appear on stage at the Platteville Municipal Auditorium at 75 W. Bonson St. The musical opens at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 and continues at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 3. The following weekend shows are at 7 p.m. Nov. 8-9 and a matinee at 1 p.m. Nov. 10.

Tickets are available at Driftless Market, 95 W. Main St., and at the door. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
