We welcome writers, artists, and photographers to contribute features, columns, photography, art, poems and prose to Voice of the River Valley. We also accept press releases. Please review the following guidelines for contributions.

Features, Columns, Photography, Art, Poems and Prose. We welcome contributions reflecting people and events that inspire, inform and enrich life in the Lower Wisconsin and Sugar-Pecatonica River Basins of Wisconsin’s Driftless Area. The focus of Voice of the River Valley is arts and culture, organizations and events in the cities, towns and villages of this region. Pieces that focus on people and/or events outside this coverage area will be considered on an individual basis. If you are uncertain about whether your contribution is in keeping with our guidelines, please feel free to contact us.

Press Releases. Your organization’s news is important to us and may be published according to our mission and the amount of space available. We give priority to non-profits, so if you wish to guarantee visibility to your event or if you wish to promote your business, it is best to run an advertisement. Press releases are limited to 225 words. Please include a contact phone number and email address in case we need to contact you. Email press releases to info@voiceoftherivervalley.com.

Possible topics include but are not limited to: Upcoming events, unique people, geography, natural and social sciences, history, education, farming, artisan and organic products, foods and beverages, architecture, music, theater, photography, painting, sculpting, glass work, furniture making, weaving, paper making, sustainable living, creative learning, integrated medicine, wellness, and healing arts, sustainable forestry and building. Poetry and prose are welcome.

To contribute a piece to Voice of the River Valley, please send a brief query with the following information to info@voiceoftherivervalley.com:

Theme/subject/goal/purpose
Names and locations of people and/or business mentioned in your piece
A sample of your writing from other published work (if this is your first piece for Voice of the River Valley)
Your name, address, phone number and email address
Something about you (writing background, interest in the subject, etc.)
Length: Pieces are no longer than 480 words in length. Others will be considered on an individual basis.
Photos: Photos must be submitted in jpeg (minimum 300 dpi and twice display size) or pdf printed to press quality format.

  • We are not able to offer payment for submissions.
  • We cannot guarantee when or if your piece will be published but will do our best to notify you as soon as possible.
  • Editing will be done at the publisher’s discretion.
  • We are not a political- or sports-focused publication.
  • All pieces will be reviewed and published at the discretion of the editors and publisher.
