Workshop: Thistles & Threads: Introduction to Hand-Embroidered Florals

Learn the basics of hand embroidery by creating a fun floral sampler. First we’ll learn a range of versatile stitches including satin stich, backstitch, stem stitch, French knots, lazy daisy stitch, and woven wheel stitch. Then we’ll incorporate the stitches we learn to build our own floral patterns, covering tips and tricks to enhance our stitching. Pattern inspiration will be provided, but students are encouraged to develop their own motifs, too. In the class we’ll also discuss methods for transferring patterns to fabric, how to finish projects, and tips for stitching on various types of fabric. No previous stitching experience required.
