Workshop: Fermented Beverage Series

In the past, the beneficial effects of fermented foods on health were unknown, and so people primarily used fermentation to preserve foods, enhance shelf life, and improve flavor. Fermented foods have recently been associated with many health benefits, such as anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-atherosclerotic activity.
In this class, students will receive instruction on how to brew kombucha, kefir water and milk, ginger beer and turmeric soda from master fermentation brewer Vanessa Tortolano. Each will be demonstrated by the instructor, and supplies will be available for purchase so that students can embark upon their own fermentation adventures at home.
