The Hound of Ulster, and Irish Mumming Traditions
August 13, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free
Réamonn Ó Ciaráin is the author of three books about the Irish hero Cúchulainn, and will share with us why Cúchulainn is known as a potent symbol of bravery, loyalty, martial prowess, beauty and wisdom; why the legacy of a character out of an ancient heroic tale, the Ulster Cycle (possibly dating back to the time of Christ) endures, and how he can still hold significance for people in the 21st century.
Caroline Tatem is a folklore doctorate student delving into the Irish tradition of mumming, and the accompanying masked costumes, theatrical play and the meaning behind it all.
We are thrilled that they are fitting in a stop at Folklore Village between their appearances at the Irish Fair of Minnesota and the Milwaukee Irish Festival. Join us … you may even have a chance to take part in an enactment of a short mummer’s play script!
