Photography Exhibit: “Driftless Strong: Facing Historic Times Together and Apart”
November 1, 2020 - November 11, 2020
Community photography exhibition featuring nearly 40 photographs capturing the new routines, moments and emotions that make up 2020’s unexpected and historic coronavirus era.
What will you remember about this time? What kept you and your family busy? Distracted you? Kept you strong? How did you stay connected to loved ones and friends? How did your place of work adapt? Or perhaps it couldn’t? What feelings colored your daily life, or kept you awake at night? What image or images will forever exemplify your COVID-19 Era?
This community exhibit was envisioned as a way to create empathy and connections even while we are safer at home. It captures the understandable anxiety and uncertainty, moments of intimacy and the silver lining of family togetherness, and—especially—the resilience and strength of the people who call Home the Driftless area’s rolling hills, prairies, farms and small town centers.
The Driftless Historium Walk-up Gallery takes advantage of the 1886 Gilbertson Hardware Store’s large plate glass storefront display windows and awning to provide a sheltered, outdoor venue for art appreciation.
All photograph submissions will also be added to the permanent archives of the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society as a visual record of the pandemic.
Visit the Driftless Historium website to access a companion virtual gallery containing additional contributed images.
