Nicaragua Sister City Project 25th Annual Burrito Supper
October 25, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm$5 – $12
The Richland Center-Santa Teresa Sister City Project invites you to its 25th annual Burrito Supper and Dance.
The 5:30 p.m. supper will feature the traditional tortillas for which participants will choose their own beef, chicken, pork, rice and beans served with locally grown vegetables, salsas and guacamole. A wide variety of homemade desserts will follow.
At 6:30 p.m. an informative Nicaragua slide show will be presented in the meeting room, and at 7 p.m. the Kettle Creek String Band from Gays Mills will play and call old-time reels, polkas and squares. Dances will be taught. All ages are welcomed. There will be a piñata for children as well.
During and after the supper, people will be able to shop in a variation of the typical Central American Village Market. There will be fresh seasonal produce, preserves, Central American and Wisconsin hand-made crafts and art objects.
A suggested donation of $12 per adult and $5 per child includes both supper and the dance. Money raised at this event goes to health, education, agriculture and environmental projects in Santa Teresa, Nicaragua.
Some exciting new projects in the past couple of years include the Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative, education about migratory birds in the village schools, and the successful introduction of sesame as a farmers’ cash crop.
