Geology of the Driftless Area

August 24, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

a o

Spend a morning exploring the Wisconsin River valley, a quarry and the “Frank’s Hill” effigy mounds to learn about the fascinating geology of the Driftless Area. We will see evidence of ancient sea beds, ancient peoples, and why our trip leader, Dr. Eric Carson, thinks the Wisconsin River once flowed in the opposite direction of what we see today.

The group will meet at Victoria Riverside Park in Muscoda. Go from there to the quarry on Prairie Road in the Dry Dog area, and then over to Frank’s Hill on the north side of the river to see effigy mounds and get a great view of the river valley and beyond.
