Alley Stage Reading Series: Deb Meyer’s “The Whole Shebang”

September 10, 2022 @ 3:00 am - 6:00 pm

Enjoy a Saturday afternoon at Shake Rag Alley for our third staged-reading series on our intimate outdoor theater, Alley Stage. Besides being fun to watch, a staged reading of a play-in-progress is an important way a playwright can get important feedback from an audience (you!) and determine what their next steps are with the script.
Start at 3 p.m. for Afternoon Tea at the Art Café where Shekinah King will provide entertainment, then move to our intimate outdoor theater for the 4 p.m. staged reading of the play and talkback to follow. September’s cast includes Heather Harris and Taitlin Riley of Mineral Point and Paul Lorentz, Bryan Royston and Lorena Severson of Madison. In the event of inclement weather, we will move to the Sardeson Studio at 223 Commerce St.

About the Play:A semi-finalist in the 2021 Garry Marshall New Works Festival, “The Whole Shebang” is a provocative dark comedy, rich with twists, turns and ulterior motives. The story revolves around Bentley, a wealthy, recovering alcoholic going through a nasty divorce. His egocentric ex, Keli, and life-long friend, Tom, seem to be plotting against him. Krystal, a smart, insightful detective acquaintance from AA, drops in on him in the midst of his struggles, chaos, and Keli’s manipulative rage.

About the playwright: Deb Meyer of Columbus, Wisconsin, is the author of “Curses! A Fractured Fairies Tale,” “The Whole Shebang” and numerous other works. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild, New Play Exchange, The Playwrights Center and Playwrights Ink, Madison.
