Driftless Gems

By Angie Buelow

Just outside of Dodgeville, only a few miles from Taliesin and House on the Rock, is one of the area’s best hidden gems. Located on over 548 acres bordering Governor Dodge State Park is Adamah Art Studios of Bethel Horizons. Its breathtaking views, incredible retreat center and expansive outdoor space inspires creativity to flow and community to flourish.

Adamah, which is a Hebrew word for “earth,” is a center for creativity with a focus on ceramic and fiber arts to be explored by all ages. Our art campus offers over 40 workshops annually with world-class instructors and provides both beginners and professionals, educational opportunities that will fit one’s interest and skill level. Our youth can enjoy Discovering Art in Nature, a week-long summer camp program in partnership with Bethel Horizons Nature Center, as well as provide a space for art classes and home school groups to explore the ceramic arts.

The Adamah studios offer diverse workshops in other mediums such as fiber arts, glass, painting, papermaking, printmaking and eco-dyeing from its own dye garden and wildflowers found on the property. We offer day, weekend and week-long workshops as well as evening classes throughout the year.

Our art campus includes our main, fully equipped, spacious studio, an open-air summer studio, two chamber Anagama wood kilns and the Art Ventures Retreat Center with lodging and a massive dining hall. We boast a complete ceramic studio with wheels, equipment for hand- building, tools, a glazing room, a Bailey gas kiln and several electric kilns.

Learn through instructor demonstrations or independent studio time. Join us for a personal retreat of self-discovery! Share your ideas and meet other artists, explore over 7 miles of beautiful private hiking and mountain biking trails, explore our many cliffs or visit some of the nearby artist communities of Mineral Point, Spring Green and Mount Horeb during your stay at Adamah Art Studios.

Visit our website www.adamahartstudio.org for a full list of upcoming classes and workshops. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for upcoming Art Openings showcasing local artists in our gallery space. Adamah is not a drop-in studio but caters to organized workshops and retreat groups and offers limited rentals of our kilns.
