The River Valley Community Chorus will be performing a concert at 4 p.m. Sept. 29 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain. Donations will be accepted at the door.
The chorus of 60 community members will perform two pieces, the haunting “Requiem Mass” by Faure and the rarely performed “Messe Solennelle” by Vierne. The chorus will be joined by a 15-piece orchestra for “Requiem Mass” and by two organs for “Messe Solennelle.” Soloists for the concert are Carl Leaf, Derek Miller and Emily Wicker.
According to chorus director Michael Davidson, “The resonant acoustics at St. Luke’s are absolutely perfect for these two pieces. In addition to the pipe organ at St. Luke’s, Integrity OrganWerks will be lending us another organ so we can perform ‘Messe Solennelle’ the way it was meant to be performed, with two organs. This will be a stunning concert.”
This concert is supported, in part, with funding from the Spring Green Area Arts Coalition and from the Sauk County UW-Extension Arts & Culture Committee and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the state of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
