Call for Submissions: Alley Stage Reading Series

Building on the success of 2021’s inaugural staged reading series at the intimate outdoor Alley Stage amphitheater, Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts announces a call for submissions for the 2022 series that will bring together playwrights and their works in development with a cast and an audience.

Playwrights who are current residents of Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota are invited to submit an original, full-length play that has not been produced (no musicals or one acts). If selected, playwrights will receive a stipend and a free one-night stay for the reading June 25, Aug. 20, Sept. 10 or Oct. 1.

Readings are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a talkback session with the audience. Prior to the readings, at 3 p.m. audience and cast members will be invited to enjoy afternoon tea and live music at Shake Rag Alley’s Art Cafe.

For priority consideration, submissions are due Feb. 28. For more information and submission details, or to add your name to the community actor casting call or musician roster, see ShakeRagAlley.org/alley-stage.

The 2021 series featured works in progress by Marcia Jablonski of Mineral Point and Madison writers Kurt McGinnis Brown, Bob Curry, Jeff Pfeiffer, Brendon Smith and Jan Levine Thal, and was supported by a grant from the Mineral Point Community Foundation.
