About Us

Voice of the River Valley is a monthly independent arts and culture magazine published and distributed in the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin by Wording LLC.

Since 2006, Voice of the River Valley has been a guide to people and events that inspire, inform and enrich life in the Lower Wisconsin and Sugar-Pecatonica River Basins of Wisconsin’s Driftless Area.

This all-volunteer publication is made possible by the creative voices of our region. Thanks to those who advertise their businesses, organizations and events with Voice of the River Valley, our print issues are offered to readers free of charge. For content submission guidelines, advertising and subscription options, and to submit events to the calendar, please explore this website.

As we and our region continue to recover from the pandemic, each month up to 2,000 copies of Voice of the River Valley are distributed to several locations in six counties across southwestern Wisconsin.

A Brief History

Voice of the River Valley was founded by Mary Friedel-Hunt and Bill Hunt in July 2006 with the purpose of uniting the creative communities of southwestern Wisconsin along the Lower Wisconsin River and beyond. In August 2012, Wording LLC, an editing and publishing company formed by Sara Lomasz Flesch, purchased the publication. Since picking up where Mary and her late husband, Bill, left off, Sara and Erik Flesch have marveled as this all-volunteer magazine has grown in size and coverage and distribution areas — thanks to the support of contributors, advertisers, distributors, subscribers and the participation of our readers.
