About Us

Voice of the River Valley is an independent arts and culture magazine published in the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin by Wording LLC.

Beginning in 2006 through August 2022, Voice of the River Valley was printed and distributed to scores of locations and served as a guide to people and events that inspire, inform and enrich life in the Lower Wisconsin and Sugar-Pecatonica River Basins of Wisconsin’s Driftless Area. This all-volunteer publication was made possible by the creative voices of our region. Thanks to those who advertised their businesses, organizations and events with Voice of the River Valley, our print issues were offered to readers free of charge.

Beginning in September 2022, we have hit pause on the monthly printing of our publication in order to take stock and consider the best path forward for this community treasure. A Brief History

Voice of the River Valley was founded by Mary Friedel-Hunt and Bill Hunt in July 2006 with the purpose of uniting the creative communities of southwestern Wisconsin along the Lower Wisconsin River and beyond. In August 2012, Wording LLC, an editing and publishing company formed by Sara Lomasz Flesch, purchased the publication. Since picking up where Mary and her late husband, Bill, left off, Sara and Erik Flesch have marveled as this all-volunteer magazine grew in size and coverage and distribution areas — thanks to the support of contributors, advertisers, distributors, subscribers and the participation of our readers.
