The 2nd Annual Mineral Point Chamber Music Festival takes place June 8-10. Three young professional ensembles will perform three full concerts on the evenings of June 8 and 9 and the afternoon of June 10. An addition to the festival are two free concerts on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The concerts will be performed by ensembles composed of festival musicians, local professional musicians and high school students.
“The goal of the festival is to provide a valuable performing experience for young professional musicians, a significant listening experience for local residents, and a reasonably priced, culturally rich weekend destination for music lovers,” said Peter Schmalz, festival founder and director.
The festival program features:
7:30 p.m. June 8: Artu Duo, University of Minnesota, (music by Schumann, Martinu, Beethoven), Mineral Point Opera House, 139 High St.
1:30 p.m. June 9: Free Concert (music by Martinu, Brahms, Ibert, Strauss), UCC Church Chapel, 300 Maiden St.
7:30 p.m. June 9: Volante Winds, Indiana University (music by Barber, Pilss, Orban, Briccialdi), Mineral Point Opera House.
12:30 p.m. June 10: Free concert by the Festival Brass Ensemble (music by Strauss, Pilss, Barber, Pachelbel, Mendelssohn, G.F. Handel), Library Park, 137 High St.
1:30 p.m. June 10: Altino Duo, University of Wisconsin-Madison (music by Kodaly, Ravel, Halvorsen), Mineral Point Opera House.
Concert tickets are $20 per event. A Festival Pass (all three concerts) is $49. Tickets may be purchased online at: artsmp.org/chamber-music-fest/ or at the box office during the festival.
